About Casa Dolce Aria

View from the gardenCasa Dolce Aria is a family holiday home, which is fully equipped to ensure that all guests have a relaxing stay. Whilst the fittings and some of the furniture are modern, the house also contains a number of antique pieces of furniture. The mixture of the antique and the new is intended to ensure comfort whilst retaining a sense of the history of the house and the area. There is plenty to see and do in the neighbourhood, but the house is also well-equipped for those who want relax and enjoy themselves without going far.

Outside there are two focal points. One is the pool set in the lower terrace, with views across the valley towards the jagged outline of Monte Soratte. The other is the terrace by the house, where the barbecue and outdoor furniture provide a spur to al fresco dining. Either are ideal places to relax during a summer day. There is also a wood-fired pizza oven, for those guests who know how to cook pizzas in the traditional way.

Inside the house there is a selection of games, books and DVDs to provide home entertainment.

The casa is owned by Andrew Kidger, a Brit who has worked in Rome, and discovered for himself the magic of Sabina. Andrew and his family regularly stay in the house, and his hope is that all who visit it will feel welcome and at home there.

The house sleeps up to eight people.

The living room is furnished with a large sofa, chairs, TV and DVD player, plus an original eighteenth century table with long church benches - the perfect spot to dine, read or play one of our selection of board games.

The kitchen has a large stove with a spacious electric oven, fridge-freezer and ample storage. There is a double sink, a dishwasher, drainer cupboard, electric toaster and electric kettle. Coffee can be made the Italian way, or in a cafetiere.

The house has central heating, and there is also a fireplace in the living room, where winter visitors can enjoy a log fire.

The house is fully equipped with crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils. All linen and towels are provided.

The house is thoroughly cleaned before a new occupancy, but guests are requested to maintain normal cleanliness whilst staying there, and so a vacuum cleaner, brushes, mops and cleaning materials are provided. There is a separate laundry room with a family-size washing machine. Washing can be hung on the outside line, or the clothes drier, and there is also an iron and ironing board.

Outside the house, the grounds descend the hillside in a series of terraces. The top level has car parking space, a tree shaded lawn, and a paved area with a barbecue and table and chairs. Close by is the pizza oven. A flight of steps leads down to another terrace and the swimming pool, with sun loungers for relaxing and soaking up the sun. The near-by Pool House cna be used for changing, and has its own terrace which is an ideal spot for lunch or early evening drinks. The lowest part of the garden is wooded.

It should be noted that although the top level of the grounds is fenced, there are some terraced sections that are not. We would therefore advise parents that small children need to be supervised when out of the house.

Shops and Restaurants

Street in MontasolaMontasola is a small community but it has a pharmacy, restaurant, bar and post office. The local park has a bar and a kids' playground, and is the location for different village festivals through the summer. The nearest shop is under ten minutes drive away and is well equipped for daily needs. There are several supermarkets within a short drive.

Sabina is famous for its olive oil, and oil can be bought on tap from a small shop not far from the house. There is also plenty of good Italian wine available in the shops and restaurants, and wine producing areas are not too far away.

For many people part of the enjoyment of a holiday in Italy is eating out, and sampling both the local and wider Italian cuisine. There is a restaurant within easy walking distance of Casa Dolce Aria which produces a good range of traditional Italian dishes, and also provides a take-away pizza service.

Information on the many restaurants in the area, on the shopping centres and markets, and on sights to visit is provided in a guests' information pack in the casa.
